OU Application Numbers Set Record
< < Back to ou-application-numbers-set-recordOhio University is setting a new record for the number of applications it is receiving this year.
The university has already surpassed the record of 14,000 applications, which was set three years ago.
Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Craig Cornell says they have been working on a strategic enrollment management plan created several years ago and they are now starting to see some real results.
"It's really a combination of focusing in on particular areas so it's the combination of marketing, meeting with guidance counselors, meeting with students, going to fairs, running commercials and ads and working with alumni. So, what we're looking at is kind of a full circle effect of all our efforts around a particular area and then zeroing in and so we've seen some real results where we've done that," says Cornell.
OU has received more than 16,000 applications so far with four months to go before the final deadline, and Cornell says the flow of applications is not slowing down yet.
"We've accepted about 9,000 students, but it's still a little bit early. A lot of students are giving us their end of first term grades out of their senior year in high school. Some are turning in late test scores and finishing their transcripts. This is the time where we analyze that pool and decide who we're going to be admitting and not going to be admitting," says Cornell.
The university has a base budget of $750,000 dollars for marketing, which covers all of the marketing done in and outside the state of Ohio.
Officials are also working to improve the number of out of state applications, which Cornell says is up almost 100 percent this year.
Cornell appeared Friday on WOUB Television's Newswatch program.
