Athens Foundation Hosts Grant Writing Workshop
< < Back to athens-foundation-hosts-grant-writing-workshopApplicants hoping to receive a grant from the Athens Foundation this spring will notice changes in the application.
A workshop will be held today from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Athens Community Center to highlight some of the changes that have been implemented in the Athens Foundation’s grant application.
Susan Urano, Executive Director, says the changes will not be drastic, but the organization is stressing the foundation's expectation of receiving better-written proposals.
“Hopefully, we will be helpful to grant writers so they know what they are evaluated by,” said Urano. “Then we take questions on a one-to-one basis so it's also a good networking operation.”
While the foundation’s priority and mission is to help improve life in Athens County, Urano says they have specific rules and values that apply to organizations requesting a grant.
Grants are usually rejected if the projects have already happened, if the money is used to pay a loan or if it benefits an Ohio University student directly.
“Our main goal is to improve life in Athens County. If it's to fund a student dance, we are probably not going to be interested in that,” said Urano. “We have probably, in 30-plus years, given a grant to every non-profit in Athens County. We’ve made grants to around 150 organizations.”
The grants endowed during the spring and fall usually support different organizations.
This spring grants will only be offered to organizations that would benefit the arts culture, education and environmental affairs.
