Coroner Changes Ruling On 40 Year-Old Suicide

The Hocking County Coroner has changed the ruling on a 40-year-old suicide case to undetermined after reviewing crime scene photographs.
Coroner David Cummin says the 1972 death of Carolyn Gilkey was originally decided as a suicide.
Gilkey was the first wife of Paul Gilkey, who killed himself and three relatives in their Logan home in January.
Paul Gilkey's second wife, Darlene, was bedridden with cancer and was home at the time. Darlene Gilkey was Carolyn Gilkey's sister. Paul Gilkey was allegedly arguing with his son and sisters-in-law over what to feed his wife at the time of the shooting.
Cummin says the investigative photos from the scene of Carolyn Gilkey's death show her with a shotgun propped up in front of her arm, but the gun should be behind her arm instead. He says she died from a gunshot wound to the head, however it was not self-inflicted as first thought.
He says the case will not be investigated further.
