Athens School Board Moves Forward On Emergency Levy Proposal
< < Back to athens-school-board-moves-forward-emergency-levy-proposalResidents of the Athens City School District apparently will see a 7.4 mill emergency operating levy on the ballot in November.
The Athens School Board took the first formal step to accomplish that Thursday night, passing a resolution of necessity.
Superintendent Carl Martin says the original levy was approved by voters in 2004, was renewed in 2008 and "is up again for renewal."
It currently brings in $3.2 million a year.
The board wants to increase that to $3.7 million, so is proposing to up the millage from 7.28 to 7.4.
To get on the ballot, the Athens School Board also needs to adopt a "resolution to proceed with the issue" and that will be considered at its monthly meeting in July.
