Ohio University Lancaster Women’s Basketball Claims State Title

The Ohio University Lancaster women’s basketball team cut down the nets on Sunday night and was crowned state champions for the first time in nine years. 

The Lady Cougars won two games over the weekend in Chillicothe to claim the state title. Kristy Swinehart netted 24 points for the Lady Cougars in route to a 78-66 victory over Miami Middletown on Saturday in the state semi-finals.  

Head Coach Jeff Whitehead’s squad continued to dominate on the hardwood on the following day in the state championship game. The Lady Cougars outlasted Miami Hamilton, 80-61, and claimed their first state title since 2005. 

Freshman Sarah Miles shined for the Cougars and led her team with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Swinehart added 18 points in the winning effort and was named the MVP of the tournament.

The Lady Cougars finished the regular season with a 25-6 record.
