Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was in Athens Thursday, speaking at an event put on by the Ohio University College Republicans.

Cain briefly came to the forefront of the Republican race last fall, but suspended his campaign in December after allegations of sexual misconduct.

At the appearance, he didn't say much about new developments in the race for the Republican nomination for president.

Cain's main goal was to encourage students to be politically active.

"I don't care whether you are a Republican, a Democrat, or a Libertarian. Washington is broken. And it is going to hamper you in pursing your dreams," said Cain.

The former candidate was not paid to appear at the university.
