Oil Well Explosion Blast Kills One
< < Back to oil-well-explosion-blast-kills-oneFirefighters say one person was killed in an explosion at an oil- and gas-well site in Tuscarawas County.
The blast happened on Monday morning near Bolivar, about 50 miles north of Cambridge.
An employee at a nearby group home says he felt the ground start to shake and looked toward the oil well.
He says the cover of a storage tank shot about 100 feet into the air, and fuel leaked down a driveway and into a field.
It wasn't immediately clear how the fatality occurred or what caused the explosion.
Responders from more than a half-dozen departments helped to get the resulting fire under control.
Hazardous-materials crew were trying to contain the fuel spill.
