The Compost Exchange is now officially open for business.

Owner Ray Leard said the compost facility has just received a license from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and “will be rolling out new services in the coming months.”

The operation is located on Poston Road, near The Plains, which is also the site of Leard’s Purely American food company.

The Compost Exchange offers residents in Athens, The Plains, and Nelsonville a weekly pick up service for their yard and food waste.

Customers receive a card that’s good for discounts at local businesses which sign-on with the Exchange.

Leard said one of his goals is “to achieve ZERO WASTE in ATHENS”, at the same time “creating local ‘green’ jobs.”
