Meigs Lady Marauders Dominated By Alexander Lady Spartans
< < Back to meigs-lady-marauders-dominated-by-alexander-lady-spartansThe Meigs Lady Marauders (12-10) couldn’t knock down TVC-Ohio champions Alexander Lady Spartans (19-3) on Thursday, suffering a tough loss at home 71-28 on their senior night.
Alexander’s offense was the highlight of the game, led by sophomore Rachel Richardson’s six three-pointers. Leah Richardson with 14 points and Kena Rice with 17 points also contributed to the Lady Spartans success behind the arch. Alexander’s press defense was able to force turnovers and stifle the Meigs offense.
Rachel Richardson was the leading scorer of the game with 20 points. In her last regular season game with her sister, she took off. Four of the five Lady Spartans starters had more than 10 points.
Meigs offense couldn’t get anything going against Alexander’s tight defense, and went into halftime down 41-13. However, they did pick up points from Alexander’s 11 team fouls. Marissa Noble led the team with 7 points. Meigs coughed up 11 turnovers on the night and could only shoot 22 percent field on 11/50 shooting, failing to get any kind of rhythm. Twenty-eight points was the lowest points scored in a game by Meigs since Dec. 27 when they lost 84-26 against Parkersburg.
In the last game of the regular season Alexander looks to keep this momentum going into the playoffs. They will play the winner of River Valley and Westfall on Feb. 18. Alexander easily handled River Valley 67-24 and 64-19 earlier in the season. Alexander has not played Westfall.
Meigs takes on Jackson (9-11) on Feb. 15. Meigs lost to Jackson earlier in the year, 48-43.
