Athens Lady Bulldogs Prepare for Gallia Academy Blue Angels
< < Back to athens-lady-bulldogs-prepare-for-gallia-academy-blue-angelsIt’s that time of the year, postseason basketball is upon us and the Athens Lady Bulldogs and the Gallia Academy Blue Angels get it started in the first round of the Division II tournament.
What to know:
Athens (4-15)- The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 52-34 victory at Wellston. Their starting lineup consists of four sophomores and one freshman. They finished third in the TVC-Ohio Conference with a 3-9 record.
Gallia Academy (9-14)- Finished the regular season with a 54-33 victory over Portsmouth. The Blue Angels are graduating four seniors this year: Jenelle Stevens, Carly Shriver, Adrienne Jenkins and Kimberly Edelmann. These two teams already played this year, Gallia Academy got the best of Athens on the road with a 47-40 win on Dec. 27.
Key Players:
For Athens, Freshman Laura Manderick has been the catalyst for the Lady Bulldogs all season long. She can drive to the rim, knock down three-pointers and rarely comes out of the game.
Olive Harter is also a three-point shooter who has a deadly shot and great court awareness. Harter has great basketball knowledge; she constantly finds her open teammates for easy buckets.
For Gallia Academy, Senior Carly Shriver led the Blue Angels with 18 points in their victory over Portsmouth on Friday. Also, Adrienne Jenkins had 11 points. One key thing to note is Shriver and starting point guard Alex Barnes were suffering from the stomach flu on Friday and had their minutes limited due to the illness.

The Lady Bulldogs and Blue Angels tip it off at Logan High School, Monday night at 7 p.m.
