‘Packing Psyche’ Sculptures and Mixed Media by MFA Thesis Student Tina Vu
< < Back to packing-psyche-sculptures-and-mixed-media-by-mfa-thesis-student-tina-vuThe School of Art + Design proudly presents “Packing Psyche,” a collection of sculptures and mixed media by graduate student Tina Vu at the Ohio University Trisolini Gallery, April 25–29. The public is invited to a reception with refreshments on Thursday, April 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For Vu, art making is a sixth sense, an extension of her being through which she perceives the world when her other senses fall short. The work in this exhibition examines the artist’s own mental health and her responses to anxiety.
The exhibition features a collection of faceted sculptures with varying layers of mixed media manifesting the artist’s psychological organization. Visitors to the gallery can follow along as control is pursued through geometric forces. The artist transforms her stressful memories into understandable forms, searching for autonomy from the past. With each layer of material, Vu diffuses the intensity of her original experiences and increases the sense of resolution and stability. Success occurs when what remains is a token of weakness, rendered silent.
Trisolini Gallery, located on the 4th Floor of Baker University Center, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
