High Spirits were in the air as it was Breast Cancer Awareness night for the contest between the Trimble Tomcats and the Federal Hocking Lancers. Breast Cancer survivors were honored pregame and the teams both wore pink-themed jerseys to support the cause.

This game started out as what looked to be a one-sided affair as the Lady Lancers flew out of the gates by putting 12 straight points on the board. The Lady Tomcats just could not stop the Lady Lancers offense in the first set. Senior Paige Watkins and Federal Hocking were too much for the Lady Tomcats, as they fell 25-11 in the first set.

The second set was a complete change of pace for the Lady Tomcats. They came out with more energy and fire power propelling them to a 9-2 lead. With big plays by Macinsey Cooper and Kimberly Williams, it looked as if the Lady Tomcats were going to have a second set victory. The Lady Lancers weren’t having it and rallied to tie the score at 12 a piece. The Lady Lancers got their rhythm back and kept rolling. With the help of some errors from Trimble, they snagged the second game 25-23.

Sloppy play would describe the third set as neither team had precision with multiple attacking and defensive errors. However, Federal Hocking smelled blood and played the third set with a will to win. The first half of the set was very close, but the will to win motivated the Lady Lancers and led them to a 25-13 edge over the Lady Tomcats. Which in turn led to a sweep for Federal Hocking in the game over Trimble.

Federal Hocking did dominate this game on the stat sheet, but Trimble’s effort can’t go unnoticed. They were risking their bodies by diving all over the floor and running after every ball. Unfortunately, this was not enough as the Lady Tomcats needed to add a little more on offense to lead them to victories. For Federal Hocking, they needed to keep up the pace the whole way through. They came out very strong in the first set and seemed to look a little slow coming out in the second set. They have to keep their foot on the pedal and if they do not this could be a major problem heading into the postseason.

Due up next for the Trimble Lady Tomcats is the Waterford Lady Wildcats at home next Monday. For the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers, they square off on the road against the Belpre
