This past week has been rollercoaster for the Trimble basketball programs, as the Lady Tomcats suffered two blow out losses and the boy’s team had both a big win and a close loss.

On Tuesday the 21st, the Tomcats got off to a rough start on the road at Wahama, trailing early by 10.
The offense went through a dry spell on offense in earlier in the second quarter but was able to end the half at 25-17.
The third quarter was when the Tomcats showed their true identity. Their offense began to click, and their defense was tremendous, allowing them to secure a substantial lead in an eventual victory over Wahama, 60-37.

Sophomore Cameron Kittle was the leading scorer of the team, finishing with 19 points.

It was clear that Wahama read the scouting report on Randy Hixson, who before Tuesday was averaging 36 points per game. The White Falcons were able to hold Hixson to 9 points by running a box-and-one defensive scheme in order to slow him down.

While Hixon’s scoring was lower than his previous games, Coach Howie Caldwell said that he felt it was Hixon’s “best game so far,” because he was able to play more fundamentally and create more opportunities to score for his teammates while racking up assists.

The Tomcats undefeated run was soon over after falling 59-57 in a battle on the road with the Nelsonville York Buckeyes.

On Saturday the Tomcats took on Nelsonville York on the road in what Coach Caldwell considered to be “a very difficult game between rivals.”

The Buckeyes improved to a 3-3 record on the season, while the Tomcats received their first loss, making them 4-1.

After coming off their first victory last week, the Lady Tomcats hoped to continue their hard play and add some wins to their resume. However, this was not the case. The Lady Tomcats lost to Federal Hocking by a score of 43-17 on Monday and to Wahama on Thursday, 40-28.

With those two losses, the Lady Tomcats are now 1-6 on the season. With both the boy’s and girl’s teams taking a loss in their most recent game, the teams have a break to recuperate and come back strong before they each face Crooksville at home on Friday, December 30.
