Philo Stays In Hunt After Key Victory
< < Back to philo-stays-in-hunt-after-key-victoryIt was senior night for the Morgan Raiders and they were looking to get a win in their final game on their home turf. The Electrics were there to spoil the party for the Raiders on Friday night.
The Electrics (6-3, 5-2) came into this game as the seventh seed in region 15. They knew that needed to come out with a victory in their last two regular season game to get a playoff berth. They took the first step in doing so tonight as Casey Munyan had a huge game running the ball for Philo as he finished the day with 88 yards on seven carries averaging 12.6 yards per carry. Philo’s offense finished the day with an impressive 468 yards of total offense that lead them to a 55-14 victory over Morgan.
The Raiders (1-8, 1-6) just did not have the fire power offensively to keep up with the Electrics even though it was one of their more impressive offensive showings on the season. Junior wide receiver Colton Young was a real bright spot for the Raiders in this game as he finished the game with 128 yards and two touchdowns including a 74 yard touchdown late in the second half. In the end the Raiders defense struggled to stop the Raiders run game as they gave up 317 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
After forcing a three and out on the first drive of the game, Philo looked to jump on the Raiders early.
The Electrics went on a ten play 58 yard drive that culminated in Casey Munyan bulldozing his way through Morgan defenders from two yards out to put the Electrics on the board first 7-0.
Munyan was far from done on the night.
On Philo’s next possession Munyan took the handoff form quarterback Hunter Adolph and burst up the field down the left sideline and found the end zone once again. This time it was from 40 yards out and the Electrics pushed their lead to 14-0.
After falling behind by two scores Morgan knew they had to receive a spark from someone on offense to put a dent in the Electrics lead. On the third play of the drive Lucas Waters dropped back, scanned the field, and connected with Colton Young down the middle of the field who coasted into the end zone to make the score 14-7.
Philo would add one more touchdown from Munyan to make the score 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
After getting a safety midway through the second quarter, Philo looked to put a dagger into the Raiders. Casey Munyan would take it in from nine yards out on a five play drive for his fourth touchdown of the half to make the game 30-7.
The Electrics would continue their dominance the rest of the way and come away with the 55-14 victory.
The Morgan Raiders will close out their season next week against Sheridan who will be playing for a possible share of the Muskingum Valley League title.
After winning this game all Philo has to do to make the playoffs is win next week against New Lexington. Right now the Electrics sit tied for third in the MVL with the John Glenn Little Muskies.
Make sure to stay tuned to Gridiron Glory for more MVL coverage at 11:30 pm on Friday nights.
