Lady Lancers suffer sectional semifinal exit at the hands of state-ranked Eastern Brown
< < Back to lady-lancers-suffer-first-round-exit-at-the-hands-of-state-ranked-eastern-brownThe Federal Hocking Lady Lancers travel all the way to Winchester, Ohio to take on the Eastern Brown Warriors in their Sectional Semifinals matchup. Eastern Brown this season have been on a role as they come into the tournament the number 7th ranked team in Division III.
On this afternoon, it started to show quickly as the Warriors began to put shots down quickly in the first half. Meanwhile, the Lancers began to fall apart as the lack of rebounding and the multiple turnovers were telling the story of the game.
At the end of the half, the warriors were already nearing the 35-point mark with the score being 40-7.
The second half wasn’t too different for the Lancers as in the first as turnovers and aggressive defense from the Warriors diminished almost all the Lancers’ offense.
In total for the game, the Lancers only made 2 of their 34 shots, with also having 31 turnovers for the day. For Eastern Brown, junior Rylee Leonard and freshman Mya Hamilton both scored 14 points for the Warriors. This dominant success for the Eastern Brown would give them a 60-12 victory as they advance to the next game of the tournament.
Head Coach Amos Cotrill was in somber mood after the game but was determined to finish out the season strong and be ready for the next step.
“Next season starts for us realistically Tuesday after the Waterford game” Cotrill says. “We’ve got to get in the weight room, we have to improve our shooting, and we have to improve our ball handling. Because if you look at us physically, we are just so undersized from one to ten that we just have to get stronger. That will be our focus this summer.”
The Lady Lancers with this game will have only one game left in a make-up game between the Waterford Wildcats on Monday at Waterford. They will be hopeful to have better results going into Waterford for their finale for the 2021-2022 season.
