NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio (WOUB) — New Lexington went on to win 38-18 and improve to 2-0 on a beautiful, sunny, Friday night of football.

The night started out slowly between New Lexington and Maysville. Each team was held scoreless on their first drive, and then the fun began. New Lexington powered its way down the field, with Lukas Ratliff tossing his first touchdown pass of the night to his go-to guy, Tatem Toth. The Panthers would finish off the scoring drive by successfully converting a 2-point conversion to go up 8-0.

Maysville continued its trend they set on their first offensive drive and didn’t do anything with their next possession. Despite converting two fake punts on the same drive, the score would remain 8-0 all the way through the end of the first quarter, and that’s when Hunter Rose had had enough. The running back for New Lexington led his team all the way down the field early in the second quarter, capping off an amazing drive with a 33-yard touchdown run, and he didn’t stop there. A couple of drives later, he drove right through the teeth of the defense for his second rushing touchdown of the game, extending New Lexington’s lead to 22.

New Lexington’s defense remained stout throughout the first half, and with the team up three scores, had no intention of stopping. Maysville was forced to punt out of their own endzone with about a minute remaining, and that was just enough time for Ratliff heave touchdown pass number two to Jerek Braglin as time expired.

Maysville would end up making a few halftime adjustments and put 18 points on the board in the second half. However, New Lexington’s first half performance proved to be too much of a hurdle for Maysville to overcome. New Lexington went on to win 38-18 and improve to 2-0 on the young season.

New Lexington will look to continue their impressive start next week when they go up against John Glenn while Maysville will look to get back into the win column when they take on Coshocton.
