Fairland would receive the ball first, and despite moving slowly at first, Quarterback Ethan Wall launched a 51-yard pass to Keegan Smith, who powered his way through a defender and reached over the endzone for the touchdown, giving the Dragons an early 7-0 lead.
The Fairland defense would start just as strong, forcing a three and out capped off with a sack by Brandon Kirk. Their defense would keep up this assault, as on Portsmouth West’s very next drive, Fairland’s Kam Kitts would force and recover a fumble for excellent field position. The Senators would not go down easy though, as they would hold the Dragons with a blocked field goal.
But the same story would continue as the Fairland defense would force yet another fumble, opening the gate for the Dragons to begin piling on. After a huge run by Kam Kitts, Ethan Wall would find Jack Hayden for a 6-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.
This assault would continue as not much later, Jack Hayden would find the endzone once again after a gutsy 20-yard run. And with less than two minutes left in the half, Wall would go right back to Hayden again, launching a pass down the sideline for a 36-yard touchdown, making the score 28-0 Fairland heading into the second half.
The second half would continue to be much of the same story; however, the Dragon offense would slow down considerably. Both offenses were dormant, but the fireworks would pick up once again as the Fairland defense caught an interception leading to a touchdown, making it 34-0 Fairland after the missed PAT.
With the clock running, the game would see no more scoring for the rest of its duration, ending with a final score 34-0, giving Fairland a dominant win to open the season.
Notable performers included Fairland’s Jack Hayden, who found the endzone three times, Keegan Smith, who found success on both sides with a touchdown and an interception, as well as quarterback Ethan Wall.
With this victory, Fairland advances to 1-0 on the season and looks to face Point Pleasant next week. On the other hand, Portsmouth West looks to bounce back against the 1-0 Portsmouth Trojans.
