Bobcats blank Cadets, advance to Region 23 championship

LOGAN, Ohio (WOUB) – The Fort Frye Cadets met the Grandview Heights Bobcats at Chieftain Stadium to move on to the Region 23 championship game, but the Bobcats cruised away with a 27-0 victory.
Fort Frye started out strong, forcing a three-and-out on the opening drive of the ball game, but the Bobcats responded with a strong defensive stand of their own.
On the first play of Grandview Heights’ second drive, junior running back Henry Ohlinger took off and left defenders in the dust en route to an 80-yard touchdown to put the Bobcats up 7-0 with 5:43 left in the first quarter.
The Cadets had a promising drive going for them, as they converted on third-and-17 in their own territory by way of a pass from Grady Hesson to Maddox Huck to set them up at midfield, but the Bobcats stopped them on fourth-and-short to get the ball back.
Grandview Heights drove down the field, and capped off their drive with a 31-yard dime from Jack Clifford to Duncan Peters on fourth-and-6. The ensuing PAT was no good. With 6:46 remaining in the first half, the Bobcats led 13-0.
Some good defense from both squads kept the score at 13-0 going into the half.
The Bobcats wasted no time getting things going after a defensive stop, as Ohlinger got loose again and took the ball to the crib from nearly 50 yards out to extend the lead to 20-0 with 8:47 remaining in the third quarter, but a big kickoff return from freshman Luke Phillis and a personal foul on the Bobcats set up the Cadets in pristine field position.
The Cadets then drove the ball all the way down to the one-yard line, where Grandview Heights stopped them on four consecutive plays to get the ball back.
Soon after, Ohlinger broke free for a 76-yard rushing touchdown, his third of the night, extending the lead to 27-0.
The Cadets could not march back from that insurmountable deficit.
The Cadets’ run came to an end with a 9-4 record, while Grandview Heights looks to stay unbeaten against Northmoor in the Region 23 championship next week.
