A Mason County man has been charged with wanton endangerment after allegedly firing shots that hit a police cruiser.

WCHS-TV reports that Richard Allen Thomas is being held at the Western Regional Jail.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department says nine deputies were at a firing range for training Thursday evening. The department says Thomas, who lives nearby, heard them training and fired a shotgun 10 times off his back porch. The shots hit a cruiser and another car.

Thomas told deputies he thought it was a bunch of kids messing around and he wanted them to know he had a gun.
