OU Student Exhibit Confronts “Millennial Disengagement From Broader Culture”
< < Back to student-exhibit-kennedy-museum-confronts-millennial-disengagement-broader-cultureThe Kennedy Museum of Art at Ohio University will host Exhibition Confrontation: Deviation, a collective exhibit confronting "the disengagement of our generation from the broader culture and instead deviating from expected conformity and projected apathy," Jan. 17-March 2.
The show features work by 12 undergraduate students who completed an advanced painting course under John Sabraw, School of Art + Design associate professor of Painting and Drawing.
Working through the expanded notion of painting and drawing, the media ranges from traditional painting methods to mixed media, digital projection and installation.
During the course, the students developed a conceptual representation of the world around them, taking into account cultural factors that directly affect them. The work in the exhibition touches on principles of identity, sexuality and authenticity, as well as the inevitable.
The students included in this exhibition are Natalie Bechtel, John Brown, Isabel Castillo, Ava Chaney, Gabby Hanson, Crystalyn Hutchens, Ben Piper, Becky Sirc, Samantha Slone, Carrie Smith, Michael Whitehead and Peter Zeisler.
An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visit www.ohio.edu/museum for more information.
