Liquor violation arrests in 2015 are down from 2014 but drug abuse arrests, during that same period, are up according to the Ohio University Police Department’s Clery Report. The annual report looks at crime statistics and safety procedures for the previous three calendar years.

Thursday afternoon’s release of OU’s crime data was accompanied by a prepared interview with the university’s Communication and Marketing team. Ohio Police Chief Andrew Powers also sent an email to the university’s employees and students regarding the report’s data.  Read the memo here.

Reports of sex crimes are also up. According to the university’s press release Powers said, “That doesn’t surprise me, given that we had a couple of high profile sexual impositions in early 2015 that really raised awareness that inappropriate touching is a crime. I think that probably led to increased reporting in the subsequent year. Our other personal crimes—robbery and aggravated assault—have generally trended down over the last three years.”

According to the Clery Act, an annual security report is required of any university that receives federal funding.
