Like most everything else, Radio Free Athens has been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Although you won’t get to hear your favorite DJs on the air for a while, we will be supplying faithful listeners with playlists in the meantime. Find them below!

This week’s playlist starts with a tribute to the late John Lewis. Some in his own words and some with music that seems fitting. The rest of it is again a mish-mash of stuff that was created a little differently than before. I finally joined the modern world this past week and got internet service at my house. No more driving down to the park and ride on 550 to make playlists with my phone. I am finally getting connected to a world that feels more disconnected than ever. The new Pretenders recording Hate For Sale is out and the new X recording Alphabetland is available to download or stream with physical copies being available around August 22nd. *** Some challenges while viewing and listening to this week’s playlist: First, try to not tap your feet or move around during “Sweet Georgia Brown.” Second, for those of you who have spent time in A-Camp see how many places you can recognize in the Angela Perley video. Before 85% of music wound up under the strict control of just 3 labels, (Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group), there were hundreds of labels featuring thousands of artists. Much great music was either absorbed, lost or jettisoned in the consolidation, and many of those songs lost to history – certainly lost from the airwaves. This week’s list consists of artists whose original labels are gone but not forgotten.
