Athens Co. To Have Pop Up Testing Site Friday, Confirms One COVID-19 Case For August 3
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Ohio Department of Health is putting up a free pop-up coronavirus testing site this week in Athens.
The free drive-through testing will take place Friday, August 7 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Athens High School parking lot.
No appointment is needed and a health care provider’s referral is not needed, according to ODH. Quantities may be limited.
Pop-up testing sites throughout Ohio have been set up in underserved areas but are open to anyone.
Athens County has now had 345 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one additional case was confirmed Monday.
The Athens City-County Health Department announced the case in a press release sent August 3.
An analysis of ODH data indicates the case involved a person aged 20-29. An additional case required hospitalization, bringing the county’s total to 20 since the start of the pandemic.
There are 76 known active cases in the county as of Monday. There are 268 recovered cases, according to the local health department. There has been one death related to COVID-19 in the county that happened in March.
OhioHealth conducted 411 COVID-19 tests last week for a total of 5,995 total tests to date, according to the health department
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
The Ohio Department of Health announced 93.963 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide as of Monday at 2 p.m. There have been 10,992 hospitalizations and 3,539 reported deaths.
The DOH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
