The Marauders had control of the game from start to finish, and in doing so, punched their ticket to this year’s playoffs.
The Spartans won the toss and started the game off with the ball. After three pass attempts by QB Jordan Schulz, the Spartans couldn’t get anywhere and it resulted in them having to punt.
The Marauders showcased an impressive offensive drive that combined both ground, and air attacks. A penalty on fourth down had the Marauders inside the 15-yard line and set up QB Griffin Cleland for a short rushing touchdown. The first quarter concluded with the Marauders up 7-0 on the Spartans.
The second quarter started off with DB Andrew Wheeler intercepting Clelands pass. This turnover set the tone for the rest of the half, as this was the first of five in the quarter.
After Wheeler’s interception, the Marauders responded with one of their own. DB Connor Imboden picked off Schulz’s pass, ultimately setting the Marauder offense up for another Cleland rushing touchdown. A missed extra point made the score 13-0 Meigs.
Later in the second quarter, Marauder DB Joe Metzger picked off Schulz. The Marauder offense couldn’t get anything going after forcing another turnover and was forced to punt.
Metzger kept things going on defense with another interception for the Marauders. This time the Marauder offense delivered with another Cleland rushing touchdown, his third of the first half. A converted two point try made the score 21-0 Meigs.
The Spartans defense tried to get some momentum going at the end of the first half after DB Alexander Bateman intercepted Cleland’s pass in the end zone. The Spartans made a push down the field, but couldn’t find the end zone before the clock ran out.
The Spartans opened the half with a 70-yard rushing touchdown at the hands of RB Conlee Burnem. A missed extra point made the score 27-0 Meigs.
Both the Spartans and the Marauders offense were riddled with turnovers as both quarterbacks had four a piece.
The Spartans were able to find the end zone twice by air in the second half with Schulz connecting with WR Jagger Cain. The Marauders were able to add one more by way of Burnem’s ground attack.
The Meigs Marauders ended the Alexander Spartans playoff hopes, and look to continue their four game win streak next week as they enter the playoffs.
