GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — The Trimble Tomcats took down the South Gallia Rebels in round one of the Division VII tournaments.

To start the first set, Trimble came out strong with two aces from Brooklyn Burdette. After this, the Tomcats went on a six-point run led by Charlie Shafer, putting them ahead ten to one. From there, the Tomcats steamrolled the Rebels with 10 cumulative kills, crushing any chances of a comeback and ending the set 25 to 15.

At the beginning of the second set, the Rebels jumped at every opportunity and quickly led three to zero thanks to a key block by Emma Clary. However, the momentum shifted completely when Bailee Bickley served four consecutive aces. The Tomcats were ready to pounce, going on a six-point run with Macy Vore contributing three aces of her own, bringing the score to fourteen to five. Though the Rebels fought for points, it wasn’t enough as the Tomcats dominated the second set, winning 25 to 10.

Trimble started the third set with a five-point run, again led by Burdette. Out of nowhere, the Rebels revived their energy, answering with a five-point run, led by Clary. The score was tied at seven when the Tomcats kicked into high gear with multiple kills from Bailey Tomlin and Vore. With Trimble up 22 to 15, a spark ignited in the Rebels as they clawed their way back with two aces, scaring the home crowd by bringing the score to 24 to 22. Unfortunately for the Rebels, it wasn’t enough, as Trimble sealed the third set 25 to 22 and the match victory.

Head coach Brandy Freer discussed the upcoming challenge of facing Southern for the third time, “They want revenge. They are out for a win.”

Bailee Bickley spoke about the team’s camaraderie after the game, “We always work as a team, we don’t get down on each other, and we are always there for each other.”

The Trimble Tomcats are looking to keep up their momentum as they face their division rival, the Southern Tornados, this Tuesday.
