< < Back to ?p=151350Nelsonville-York took on another tough loss tonight after losing against Ironton with a final score 52-38.
The game started off with Nelsonville-York leading against Ironton 8-4 with three minutes left in the first quarter but Ironton quickly caught up ending the first quarter tied 8-8.
Aron Davis and Hunter Edwards lead Nelsonville-York with a combined score of 28 making up over half the points scored by the Buckeyes. Edwards ended the game with 16 points and Davis with 12.
Coach Kline saw more than just Davis and Edwards stand out in the game.
“I’m awfully proud of how well my team played tonight,” Kline said. “We didn’t lose the game because of lack of heart or lack of effort, we lost the game because we didn’t score enough points.”
Coach Kline was right when he said that heart and effort wasn’t the reason they lost the game, it took the Buckeyes a long way. Nelsonville-York tied with Ironton 16-16 with three minutes left in the 2nd quarter, but Ironton quickly picked up the pace in the last two minutes in the 2nd quarter putting tem at 25-18 breaking the tie.
“We just missed too many good shots,” Kline said. “It’s a two-year plan and a lot of people don’t know that we only have one senior on the team.”
Though both teams put a lot of effort into the game, only one could come out on top. Ironton used teamwork to win against the Buckeyes. At one point in the 3rd quarter every player on the scoreboard for Ironton had scored more than five points in the game.
After losing by 14 points, Kline still expressed hope for his team. As he said earlier in the season “we don’t always do things perfectly by we try to do them with great effort” and followed that up tonight by saying “It might just be our year next year, we’re going to be ready, we’re going to work hard”
Nelsonville-York’s season ended tonight after the loss.
Ironton will play Saturday, February 20th against Wheelersburg.
