Ohio Hockey: Cole Bell Picked as New Bobcats’ Head Coach

ATHENS, OH — Following a coaching search of newly two months, the Ohio hockey team has found their new head coach.
Former University of Jamestown head coach Cole Bell will take over as the Bobcats’ 14th head coach in the program’s history.
“I am very excited to join the Ohio University community and lead the Bobcat Hockey program,” Bell said in a statement to OhioBobcatsHockey.com. “This program is rich with history and has the expectation of success.”
Bell, 30, coached the Jamestown Jimmies for the last two seasons and led them to a 44-29-2 record and qualifying for the American College Hockey Association Tournament each season. Two of those wins came in Bird Arena in 2017 when Jamestown came to Athens and swept a weekend series with the Bobcats.
A former Lebanon Valley College team captain, Bell will have his work cut out for him. He takes over for Sean Hogan, who resigned from the head coaching position following his fifth season coaching the Bobcats, finished his tenure in Athens with a 132-39-19 record. Hogan also coached the ‘Cats to the ACHA Tournament in all five seasons and advancing all the way to the National Championship Game in 2017.
With a number of key players from last year’s team that played for a CSCHL title returning, the future is bright for the Bobcats and Bell has a great opportunity to keep the wins coming at Bird Arena in the coming years.
