NELSONVILLE, Ohio – (WOUB) The South Gallia Rebels came down to Ben Wagner Gymnasium to take on the Lady Buckeyes of Nelsonville-York on Monday night. The game was a back-and-forth in the beginning, buteventually got out of Nelsonville-York’s control as it progressed. The match ended 47-34, South Gallia.

The first quarter was filled with turnovers and mistakes on both sides, and it finished at a competitive 11-8 in favor of the Rebels.

More than five minutes expired in the second before the Lady Buckeyes would find their next points. This allowed South Gallia to extend the lead to 20-9. Nelsonville-York would, however, close the gap before half, making it a 20-14 game at the break.

The Rebels opened the second half hot, scoring six straight, forcing the Lady Buckeyes to call a timeout.

Nelsonville-York, behind Madi Pidcock, made an effort to return, but it wasn’t quite enough to make the game close again. The score sat at 37-22 South Gallia going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was the same. The Lady Buckeyes made a few efforts to make the game closer down the stretch, but were met with perimeter buckets from the Rebels that kept their lead above double digits. South Gallia fended Nelsonville-York off, with a 47-34 win.   Coach Truax expressed his frustrations after the game, stressing that consistency is the number one thing the Lady Buckeyes need to work on.

“We’ve got to be more consistent, from the tip to the end.”

Nelsonville-York will need that consistency with tough conference opponents such as Vinton County, Wellston, Athens, and Alexander still ahead. They sit at 5th in the Ohio (4-4), and with a third of their conference games yet to be decided, there’s plenty of room for change in those standings.
