Nelsonville Music Festival Lands Merle Haggard

Country music legend Merle Haggard has been booked to appear at the Nelsonville Music Festival in May.

On Friday, Stuart's Opera House made its first round of lineup announcements for the festival, including Haggard.

Others to appear at the festival are art-rock guitar virtuoso St. Vincent and rising Americana act Trampled By Turtles.

The Athens music community was rocked by Sunday's news that a section of West Union Street was consumed by fire, impacting longtime music venues The Union Bar & Grill and Jackie O's Pub & Brewery.

While Jackie O's Brewpub plans to reopen soon, The Union's future is uncertain.

“Women of Appalachia” Exhibit to Hit the Road

Once again women of diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences have come together to participate in the 6th Annual Women of Appalachia (WOA) events, beginning with a reception on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Parkersburg Art Center.

The fine art exhibition, which includes spoken word performances, will travel to four different venues throughout Ohio and West Virginia over a six-month period.

The Ohio University Division of Dance in the School of Dance, Film and Theatre will present its annual Fall Senior Dance Concert, the culminating project for BFA dance majors, Nov. 13-15 in Putnam Hall's Shirley Wimmer Dance Theatre.

Six seniors will employ their unique perspectives in newly created choreographic works to be presented at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. each evening.

Meet the Artist: Sandy Plunkett

Sandy Plunkett started his career in New York City as an artist for Marvel and DC Comics.

His work has been seen in issues of Spider Man, X-Men, The Rocketeer, Conan the Barbarian, Spectre and many other comics, as well as numerous concert posters, album covers and political cartoons.

Currently based in Athens, Ohio, Plunkett sat down to talk with WOUB's Nicole Schneider about his past work and upcoming projects.

Garret Players Set To Take Audiences Back In Time With “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play”

The Garret Players are about to take audiences back in time and behind the scenes with Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play. Performances are taking place Nov. 7-9 at the Fairfield County Library in Lancaster.

Written by Joe Landry and directed by Dan Steele, the play is set in a 1940s metropolitan radio station, complete with vintage microphones and “on-air” and “applause” signs. Five actors will play radio personalities who perform Alfred Hitchcock radio dramas.
