WOUB Productions Recognized By Regional Chapter of the NATAS
< < Back to woub-productions-recognized-regional-chapter-natasThe Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Association for Television Arts and Sciences has recognized two WOUB productions – Gridiron Glory and The Bobcat Sports Showcase – with student production awards. Another program – Hardwood Heroes – was recognized with an honorable mention. The awards will be presented during the 48th annual Regional Emmy Awards ceremony held Saturday, July 28 at the Belterra Casino, Resort and Spa in Florence, Ind.
The Bobcat Sports Showcase is recognized in the ‘sports’ category for the episode “Marshall week.” Crew members included Tanner Smith, Grant Burkhardt, Matt Archibald, Kaylee Donegan, Tony Hermane and Maddie Kuhn.
Tom Hodson, WOUB director and general manager, says he is extremely proud of the Bobcat Showcase team.
“This was the shows inaugural season which makes winning a major award, such as this, even sweeter,” said Hodson. “These young people dedicated themselves to the show and it has paid off for them…I couldn’t be happier for their success.”
The student-produced show covers Ohio University varsity sports and premieres on Friday, August 24 at 11 p.m. The show airs Friday nights and Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. on WOUB-TV. It is available for online viewing at woub.org.
Gridiron Glory is recognized in the ‘sports – live event’ category for a show held at Athens High School after a tornado destroyed the stadium the previous year. Crew members included Rachel Hoops, Blake Brodie, Jason Chiappino and Adam Schrand.
Michael Rodriguez, director of Student Professional Development for WOUB, says it is quite an honor that is bestowed on these hard working students.
“These students put in long hours on top of their school work and take pride in producing a professional product,” said Rodriguez. “They are very deserving of this honor. The community embraces the show, which makes the honor even more important.”
The student-produced show covers high school football in southeast Ohio and western West Virginia and features game highlights, reporter analysis, fan of the week and interviews with players and coaches. The show will premiere on Friday, August 17 at 11:30 p.m. and airs Friday nights and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. throughout the football season on WOUB-TV. It is available for viewing online at woub.org.
Hardwood Heroes is recognized with an honorable mention in the sports category for the episode “Season 2 – Finale.” Crew members included: Tanner Smith, Grant Burkhardt, Rob Schreier and Jason Chiappino. Hardwood Heroes is a student-produced high school basketball show that focuses on basketball teams in the TVC-Ohio and the TVC-Hocking conference. The episodes are available online at woub.org.
The NATAS Student Production Awards are open to entries from all colleges and universities within the Ohio Valley Chapter region. The chapter presents the prestigious and coveted Emmy Award to television professionals in thirteen markets from four states, and makes scholarships available to students at accredited colleges and universities throughout the region.
