Federal Hocking steals the ball and the show against South Gallia
< < Back to federal-hocking-steals-the-ball-and-the-show-against-south-galliaSTEWART, Ohio (WOUB) — The Federal Hocking Lancers return to Stewart, Ohio on a 8-game win streak and hopes to increase their streak to 9 against a tough opponent in the South Gallia Rebels.
The atmosphere of the gym for the game was intense for the majority of the game as both teams were back and forth against each other.
The Rebels found themselves with many shots including multiple threes and a bunch of turnovers.
The Lancers also had the moments Friday with multiple players having a stellar night. Tariq Cottrill had 12 points with six assists proving to be a true point guard on the floor. Andrew Airhart had 18 points with four coming from the three-point line. Lane Smith was the standout on the floor having a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds including a two-hand dunk in the 3rd quarter.
This game was close with the score being tied 45-45 by halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, South Gallia was starting to gain ground quickly, but in the 4th quarter the Lancers took advantage.
Federal Hocking would go on to have a 29-19 point run that would end up as the final result with the Lancers winning 9 straight with score of 74-64.
Head coach Jonathan Thompson was very respectful towards South Gallia’s play tonight towards them. “That was one heck of an effort from South Gallia” Coach Thompson says. “Those boys showed up and played, they shot the ball, they had every loose ball, their effort was amazing.”
Andrew Airhart had an impressive night with also four steals for the night and he says that he is comfortable on his performance against the Rebels. “I feel comfortable in those moments” he says. “Since I’m making the big play, I like doing that.”
The Lancers will be looking to make it ten straight against the Glenwood Tigers at 7:30 as they return once again to Stewart, Ohio.
